Spending review puts nature-friendly farming at heart of environmental agenda says WWF

Commenting on the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) and environment David Walsh, head of public affairs at WWF, said:

"As the Environment Secretary has said, nature underpins everything – the economy, food, health and society - and it would have been good to hear the Chancellor say the same in her statement. But the detail is more encouraging - while we share concerns that the overall budget for DEFRA has seen a small cut at this Spending Review, it's welcome to see that nature-friendly farming is at the heart of the government's environmental agenda, rewarding farmers for doing the right thing.

"Nature is our number one ally in producing nutritious food, fighting climate change and tackling flooding. We look forward to working with government to ensure that nature gets what it needs. That is why we are calling for a Living Planet Act to ensure that the details of their plans for climate, nature and food add up to a deliverable and ambitious plan that works for farmers and consumers."
