Your Challenge
Time is running out to limit global warming to 1.5oC by cutting greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve this, we need all businesses everywhere to take action on their emissions. However, we’re still seeing slow progress from some businesses.
This is where you can help! Take a look at the products you buy – this could be things you buy on your weekly shop, or something you buy monthly. It could even be services such as utilities, phone contracts or streaming services. Simply look up that brand online, and try to find details about their emissions footprint.
Do they publish their footprint? Have they set an emissions reduction target? Are they working on other improvements to the sustainability of their business? If the answer is no, let them know. Email, instant message, contact on social media, phone or write to that business as a concerned customer, and ask them what they’re doing to reduce their emissions footprint.
Why you're doing this
According to climate scientists, we could reach a global temperature rise of 1.5oC as soon as 2030.[1] Every increment of temperature rise leads to significant impacts on habitats, nature and people around the world.
To limit this temperature rise, we need to cut greenhouse gas emissions quickly by reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and Earth’s finite resources. And we need to develop renewable and low-carbon alternatives that will create a sustainable future.
How you'll make a difference
Contacting businesses about climate change lets them know their customers care about the environment and that this is something they should be investing in. If brands start to feel the pressure from their customers, we might start to see changes happen faster, and turn the tide on climate change.
