The Good Anthropocene

The Good Anthropocene project explores what a good future could look like in the UK, and how we could get there. Working with the Leverhulme Centre for Anthropocene Biodiversity at the University of York, we asked people in WWF-UK’s Wholescape areas – Pembrokeshire, Norfolk and the Firth of Forth – to imagine positive futures. This report presents those futures in descriptive, storytelling and artistic forms.

The report includes ‘core shifts’ that need to take place to realise these futures: from thinking in siloes to connected systems; from fatalism to agency and hope; and from an extractive relationship with nature to one of stewardship and care.

The Good Anthropocene links to the Living Planet Report’s theme of the ‘Science of Hope’ to discuss how it is possible to achieve positive futures, if we make good choices now.
