March Wallpaper

Lush, green and tranquil, forests are celebrated for their beauty and mystery. Yet the canopies of towering trees only tell a small part of their story. Beneath the surface, forests provide homes to nearly 70% of mammal species, 80% of amphibian species and 75% of bird species. In return, these creatures play a vital role in keeping forest ecosystems healthy. Forests are equally essential to people, providing accessible fresh water, recycling the air we breathe and regulating rainfall patterns across the globe. They also act as powerful natural support systems to fight climate change.

Right now, we’re losing forests at the alarming rate of 100,000 sq km per year – that's roughly one football pitch every two seconds. Once covering nearly half of the Earth’s land, forests now make up only a third, due to threats like agricultural expansion, industrial development, illegal logging, and climate-change-driven fires, droughts, and disease.

But thanks to you and your continued support, WWF has been working tirelessly to end deforestation - from co-founding the Forest Stewardship Council in 1993 to launching our Trillion Trees joint venture with BirdLife International and WCS. Together, we are protecting and improving the management of the world’s forests and helping to restore forest landscapes worldwide.

This month’s wallpaper serves to mark the International Day of Forests which falls on 21 March and to thank you for being a member.
