September Wallpaper
This month, we’re celebrating World Amazon Day by showcasing one of the rainforest’s most iconic, unique, and enigmatic species – the sloth.
For many people, September is rich in new beginnings and transitions, with the autumnal equinox marking the first day of the new season, schools starting a new academic year, and different communities and cultures celebrating harvest festivals.
In the Amazon rainforest, September is the dry season. The tree canopy is less dense than in the rainy season and temperatures are higher. For sloths, this means taking it easy. They’re well-known for being naturally sluggish, spending most of their lives hanging motionless or slowly moving between tree branches. But it’s a survival strategy that works. Sloths compensate for their low-energy, leaf-based diet by adopting a slow-paced lifestyle and expending as little energy as possible.
However, sloths are vulnerable to deforestation in the Amazon. Some subpopulations are declining due to deforestation and degradation of their habitat. As trees get cut down, the rainforest may shrink along with its inhabitants, including the sloth.
But thanks to your support, we’re committed to working with partners, Indigenous peoples, and local communities to protect the Amazon rainforest and its wildlife for future generations.
You can bring some sloth imagery to your desktop, tablet, or mobile phone with our wallpaper and September 2025 calendar, as a thank you for being a WWF member. Just scroll down and click the relevant button to download the image.
