North sea gas and oil consultations draw to a close – WWF Scotland comment

As the public consultations on Jackdaw and Rosebank fields in the North Sea draw to a close, Lang Banks, director at WWF Scotland said:

“As the public consultations on Jackdaw and Rosebank draw to a close, there is a clear choice to be made by our politicians: continue to fuel climate chaos or support a fair transition to a safer future.

“After a summer of extreme heat and devastating wildfires, including fires in the Cairngorms where the smell of smoke could be detected in Aberdeen, it would be irresponsible to approve new oil and gas developments that would accelerate climate change and do nothing to lower the energy bills of UK households. 

“Instead, governments should be working together to invest in renewable energy and create secure new opportunities for the workers and communities currently reliant on an oil and gas sector that is already in decline.”

[1]  Public consultations are underway for the UK North Sea Jackdaw gas field and Rosebank oil and gas field. These consultations run until August 10 for Jackdaw and August 17 for Rosebank.
