Scotland's emergency response

Call on the Scottish Government to urgently address the climate and nature emergency.

What are we calling for?

To tackle the climate and nature emergency, we need to see a huge surge in public investment, starting with a commitment from the Scottish Government in the upcoming budget.

We are calling for an additional £1 billion investment next year to tackle the dual nature and climate emergencies for nature-based solutions, green cities, climate-friendly farming and heating.

Why does it matter?

In Scotland, 11% of our species are at risk of extinction and almost half are showing significant declines. We have seen new temperature records in Scotland, devastating climate change impacts all over the world, including hurricanes in the Caribbean to fires in the Amazon and ice loss at the poles.

The status quo isn’t enough to meet existing targets, let alone the challenge of the climate and nature emergency facing us. Accelerated action is needed to It’s the only thing the climate notices, and it’s the only thing by which future generations will judge us.

What can Scotland do?

There is a clear pathway for Scotland to end its contribution to climate change within a generation and to respond to the nature emergency.

We need accelerated policy action, decisive political leadership and huge public investment in every sector of the economy. With vital investments in the Scottish budget, Scotland can lead the way in creating energised green cities with sustainable transport systems, changing the way we eat and heat our homes, and investing in nature-based solutions to tackle climate change and restore nature’s thriving habitats.
