Is wood good?

Choose FSC wood

Your Challenge

Make sure the next wood or paper product you buy is FSC-certified.

Look for the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) logo. If it's not there, find an alternative product that's certified.

If you search for a product to buy, add 'FSC' to your search term or look for the logo. Check if plastic products, especially throwaway ones like toothbrushes or cups, have an FSC-certified wood or bamboo alternative too.

Why you're doing this

Trees help us all. They store carbon and produce oxygen, they filter drinking water, prevent soil erosion, shelter over half of our plants and animals, provide food and medicinal plants and support communities and economies.

When forests are cut down they release carbon dioxide, and deforestation causes 15% of greenhouse gas emissions. Yet we destroy them for timber or land use (an area of forest the size of London is lost every week!) and often fail to manage them sustainably.

The Forest Stewardship Council help consumers and businesses make sustainable buying choices by adding their logo to products from forests which are sustainably managed.

How you'll make a difference

Your sustainable choice helps reduce deforestation as well as plastic pollution.
