china as a timber consumer and processing country

An Analysis of China's Import and Export Statistics with In-Depth Focus on Trade with the EU

China as a Timber Hub

China is a critical global player in the timber trade as a major producer, importer and exporter.  A significant and increasing quantity of timber and timber products is exported to the EU from China each year.  Whilst progress has been made to meet the market requirements of the EU as required by the EU Timber Regulation, there is still the risk that illegal timber is entering the European market thanks to insufficient safeguards along the Chinese supply chain. Based on a recent analysis, by Indufor, of the Chinese timber trade sector, this Brief outlines actions for governments and for businesses to improve this situation and thereby reduce their own business risk and the risk to the forests themselves.
