SCOTTISH GREENHOUSE GAS STATISTICS – WWF Scotland comment

In response to today’s publication [1], by the Scottish Government of the latest data on greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) Claire Daly, Head of Policy and Advocacy at WWF Scotland said:

“These reductions are simply not enough. The pace of change is too slow to meet our climate ambitions. Again, emissions from transport, buildings and agriculture remain largely unchanged and far too high. Every year of inaction makes the path to a safer, fairer future even harder to reach.

“Emissions from our buildings are still too high.   It's frustrating that the delay and watering down of the Heat in Buildings Bill means precious time has been lost in moving us to a place where the majority of homes are energy efficient and heated by heat pumps powered by renewable energy.  The Scottish Government needs to set out a clear path to ending the use of fossil fuel heating in homes now.

“It’s also disappointing to see emissions from agriculture remain alarmingly high and is further evidence that the government lacks the ambition or leadership to support the sector to play its part in reaching net zero.

“We look forward to seeing a Climate Change Plan and new carbon budgets in the near future that will get us back on track.”
