The scale and impact of food waste in UK primary production
Currently in the UK, the reported food waste figure of 9.5million tonnes excludes farm stage. Globally, 33-40% of all food produced is wasted, with an estimated 15.3% of this occurring before the food even makes it off farm. Agriculture is responsible for an estimated 30% of GHG emissions and 80% of deforestation worldwide. Simultaneously, 7 million people in UK live in food insecurity.
