Your Earth Hour Stories

Just a week before the opening of our school pollinator garden, The Attenborough Garden, our school's Nature Guardians worked with Louise from WWF to conduct a bioblitz of the garden using the Wild Worlds resource. It was exciting to sit down in the garden and let wildlife come to us.
St Mary’s Bryanston Square marked Earth Day with a week of pupil-led action. Children switched off lights, reduced waste, walked or cycled to school, and created eco posters. Through learning and leadership, they showed care, respect and stewardship for our planet.
As a whole school activity every child was given a sunflower seed before the half term break. They were encouraged to take home and plant in a eco pot (toilet roll and newspaper) and bring back the seedlings. The plants have started to come back in and they will create a sunflower bed.
To celebrate Earth Hour, children and staff at Little Acres Day Nursery planted vegetables, created bug homes and bird baths, started composting, reduced energy use, and cared for our woodland—supporting wildlife and learning how to protect our planet together. 🌍
We did lots of things during Earth Day - planted seeds, enjoyed the daisies flowers at playtime, had a special Earth Day assembly to show some of the work we had done as well as lots of Earth Day pledges how our favourite things about the earth. We also tidied up our community garden.

My children’s school is the first of its kind. Based entirely around sustainability and nature. They are partnered with the Eden Project and teach children everything from how to save the ocean to the different local plants growing around. The picture is of my son observing nature.
Our school raised money by doing a non uniform day and having the children talk about different ways to help our planet and how it works
Our Citizenship Club created the idea for 'Happy by Nature by Night' posters! Children observed dusk, drew nocturnal animals and wrote slogans on protecting them. We then encouraged families to take action by turning off their lights for a full 60 minutes to mark Earth Hour!
We celebrated Earth hour by talking about the different habitats we could create in our garden, using materials from our garden, like sticks, leaves and rocks and created a bug hotel. This year we’ve started growing more flowers to attract more pollinators to our garden too, which the boys planted.
At The River School , Earth Hour celebrates nature and wildlife. Pupils explore habitats, care for the pond and green spaces, and take part in nature based activities. The event inspires a love of nature and encourages children to protect wildlife in school and beyond.
